Five Steps to Faking Flawless Skin

Reveal Fresh Skin for Spring

Exfoliation comes in many forms, and can help you shed dull winter skin to reveal FRESH, SMOOTH, GLOWING skin in time for warmer weather. Use caution to select the appropriate types of exfoliation for your skin, and to not over-exfoliate, which can cause irriation, sensitivity, and over-drying. Always consult with your Esthetician to discuss what Exfoliation methods are the best for your skin type. Consultations with our Estheticians at One Eighty are always complimentary.

FRESH-FACED
The skin on your face after a dry winter can be extremely dull and dehydrated. You can achieve softer, more supple skin through a variety of Spa treatments and/or products. Lactic Acid Peels (starting at only $45) is a pain-free chemical exfoliation process that smoothes the skin’s surface by gently dissolving the dead outer layer of the skin, with zero down-time. As an added bonus, Lactic Acid actually hydrates the skin as well. We also have a variety of exfoliation products available for home use, such as Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant ® ($49) a unique rice-based enzyme powder that microfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves skin noticeably smoother and brighter. We love and recommend this product because it is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. This and other home care products are perfect for maintaining the smooth skin for weeks after your spa treatment.

SILKY SMOOTH
Waxing is a great alternative to shaving, which usually results in unsightly stubble within a day or two. Body Waxing Treatments, especially Bikini and Brazilian Waxing ($25 to $55), have increased dramatically in popularity over the last few years, because of the lasting smoothness and lack of home maintenance. Many clients note several weeks of results from waxing treatments, as well as diminished hair growth each time. Although these are not painless procedures, most clients find that the temporary discomfort can be decreased significantly applying a topical numbing gel (We recommend Plum Numb, $19.99) 10 to 15 minutes prior to the waxing procedure. For extra SMOOTHNESS, we also recommend Plum Genius ($19.99), a gentle roll-on exfoliation product , be used before and between waxing appointments to reduce irritation and ingrown hairs.

Kindness is actually Healthy?!?!

One of my favorite resources for inspiration to LIVE WELL is Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston, and wanted to share an exerpt that struck a chord with me. We all know the basics of wellness, and hopefully try to implement these principles in our daily lives; such as eating healthy and whole foods, getting plenty of exercise, and taking care of our bodies and our world around us. But this particular PILLAR of wellness described by Kathy is especially interesting:

"... Giving of ourselves makes us feel better in our bodies, too. We feel a rush of euphoria, which is then followed by a sense of calm and fulfillment. This rush is accompanied by a release of endorphins, which provide a sense of emotional well-being. Dr. Wayne Dyer, in his book The Power of Intention, points to research that says, 'a simple act of kindness directed toward another improves the functioning of the immune system and stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of the kindness and the person extending the kindness. Even more amazing is that the persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results.' So everyone involved, the giver, the receiver, and the observer are engaged in positive ways when kindness is extended."

In sum, simply being kind to others not only benefits those we are kind to, but ourselves (our minds and our bodies) as well! And remember, what goes around, comes around! Winter Skin Solutions

DRY WINTER SKIN
Quench your thirsty skin with our most hydrating facial ever! The arid climate during the most wonderful time of the year can really take a toll on our skin. Living in the South, our skin is a little spoiled from the humidity that is actually good for keeping our skin hydrated during most of the year, but when that humidity takes a vacation and we crank up the heat in our homes, our skin becomes uncomfortably dehydrated and even a little itchy. The WINTER QUENCH FACIAL helps reintroduce necessary moisture into the skin. A proper cleanser (that does NOT strip surface moisture) and gentle exfoliant preps the skin to receive tons of hydration infused via ultrasound, followed by an intensely moisturizing massage and masque. Your skin will thank you!

SUN-DAMAGE FROM SUMMERS PAST
‘Tis the season for Chemical Peeling! Some Estheticians may offer to peel your face off during any time of the year. However, I feel strongly against peeling damaged layers to expose healthy, fresh skin in the spring and summer when the UV radiation is the most intense (the cause of most of that damage in the first place). It just seems a little counter-productive in my professional opinion. I like to take advantage of the winter months when the sun is further away and is less of a threat. Chemical Peeling can literally take years off the appearance of the skin, smoothing fine lines and evening out the blotchy complexion left by years of sun exposure. TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) is the chemical of choice for most clients who want to see major results in as little as two or three treatments over the course of a winter season. Some clients, however, prefer a less drastic approach and opt for a series of less intense peels (with alternative chemicals including Glycolic and Lactic Acids, both AHAs) that offer little or no downtime. As with most things in life, there is a trade-off with chemical exfoliation. A stronger peel that causes more downtime (TCA) will give more immediate results than an AHA peel, but both certainly have their place and meet the needs of clients with different lifestyles and skincare goals.

NEED A GLOW, BUT AREN’T KEEN ON CHEMICALS?
Diamond Microdermabrasion has been receiving props in the medical community lately as the most effective form of mechanical exfoliation available!
